CORE

AERATION

Give Your Lawn A Breath Of Fresh Air

Core aeration is like acupuncture for lawns and results in a healthier and thicker lawn year after year when performed.

Aeration involves making small holes in the soil which allows the lawn to receive water, nutrients, and air at its roots. It also enables grass roots to divide and multiply where they normally wouldn't.

Why is Core Aeration important?

Core aeration is an important part of lawn care. Aeration controls lawn thatch and reduces soil compaction. Lawn thatch is a layer of dead organic protective tissue. Having excess thatch can cut off the oxygen and reduce watering effectiveness to the soil. Soil compaction makes it difficult for grass to grow and receive nutrients.

How is Core Aeration performed?

A machine pulls up plug-shaped pieces of dirt from the lawn and leaves the cores on the ground's surface.

How long does it take for the cores to break down?

The cores break down over time. The speed at which they break down depends on weather conditions. The cores help control thatch, so it is essential to let the cores break down into the soil. If lawn aesthetics is a concern, watering and mowing can help speed up the process.

When is Core Aeration performed?

Core aeration is performed in September and recommended once a year to keep the lawn at optimal health. The only time we advise you to wait before aerating is after your yard has been newly sodded or recently seeded.

What happens after Core Aeration is complete?

After aeration is complete, the lawn is then overseeded and fertilized.

Can Core Aerating damage underground utilities or pipes?

Most utility pipes are installed deep underground and out of the way of where aeration takes place. There are things such as sprinkler lines that can pose potential issues. To assure nothing gets damaged, we carefully assess your property through our LawnRx Prescription Process before performing aeration.
